Good Books: A Playful Display Font for Creative Branding

Good Books in Action: Designing a Children’s Bookstore Logo

I was recently tasked with creating a brand identity for a small, independently owned bookstore that specializes in children’s literature. The owner wanted something warm, inviting, and full of character—something that would speak to both kids and parents. As I opened my design board, the first thing I did was test Good Books, a quirky and child-themed display font that immediately caught my eye.

Good Books is a display font that feels like it's been handcrafted with joy and creativity in mind. Its playful curves and friendly letterforms instantly conveyed the whimsy and authenticity the client was looking for. I placed it on a rough logo mockup, and it felt just right—like a story waiting to be told.

Good Books for Branding: Creating Visual Harmony

Once I settled on Good Books as the main typeface for the logo, I began exploring how it could work across other brand materials. From packaging labels to social media posts, the font brought a consistent tone of playfulness throughout the entire visual identity.

On the shop signage, Good Books read beautifully against a soft pastel background, making the store feel approachable and welcoming. On business cards, it added a touch of charm without overwhelming the minimal design. Even in digital formats, like the website header, the font maintained its legibility and personality.

One thing I noticed early on was how well Good Books paired with a clean sans-serif font for body text. This combination gave the brand a balanced look—playful yet professional. It worked especially well in editorial design, where headlines needed to stand out but still maintain readability.

Good Books for Packaging and Product Labels

The client also wanted custom product labels for their collection of children’s books. Here, Good Books shone even more. Each label used the font in a slightly different way—sometimes bold and centered, sometimes smaller and tucked into corners. It added variety while keeping the overall brand voice consistent.

I found that using Good Books in short-form text, like taglines or product names, made those elements pop. For longer descriptions, I switched to a complementary serif font, which helped guide the reader's eye smoothly through the content.

Another key consideration was ensuring that the font was legible at different sizes. When I tested it on a label sticker, the small size didn’t compromise its charm—it still felt fun and engaging. That flexibility made Good Books a perfect fit for a wide range of applications.

Good Books for Social Media and Digital Marketing

For the brand’s Instagram page, I created a series of promotional graphics using Good Books. The font’s whimsical style translated perfectly into eye-catching captions and call-to-action buttons. It felt natural in a digital context, whether on a hero section of the website or an animated post.

What stood out was how the font encouraged engagement. The playful nature of Good Books made the content feel more personal and relatable, which is crucial for connecting with a younger audience. I also experimented with color variations—using bright hues for holidays and softer tones for everyday posts.

It was important to ensure that Good Books remained readable on mobile screens. Testing it at various sizes confirmed that it held up well, which is essential for any digital branding project.

Good Books for Merchandise and Print Materials

The client also wanted branded merchandise, including t-shirts, mugs, and bookmarks. In these cases, Good Books had to be adaptable to different surfaces and print methods. I found that it looked great on fabric and ceramic, maintaining its playful aesthetic without distortion.

On printed flyers and posters, the font performed exceptionally well. Its unique shapes and spacing made it visually appealing from a distance, while still being easy to read up close. This made it ideal for events and in-store promotions.

I also checked the font’s file formats and commercial licensing to ensure that it could be used across all platforms and for all intended purposes. The support for multiple languages and weights was a bonus, allowing for more creative freedom in different projects.

Good Books: A Thoughtful Choice for Any Child-Themed Project

Overall, working with Good Books was a rewarding experience. It’s a display font that brings energy and authenticity to any design project, especially those with a child-centric focus. Whether you're designing a logo, packaging, or social media content, this font adds a unique flair that can't be replicated easily.

If you're looking for a font that combines playfulness with professionalism, I highly recommend giving Good Books a try. It’s a versatile tool that can elevate your brand’s visual storytelling and connect with audiences in a meaningful way. Just remember to test it thoroughly before committing to a full brand system—because sometimes, the right font makes all the difference.
